Modular spreader beam: Maximum flexibility for heavy loads
Discover the versatility of modular spreader beams from OX & RUD Lifting Solutions. The modular design allows you to cover a wide range of spans and load capacities with just a few components. Whether in industry, ports, or on construction sites – we deliver the right lifting solution, depending on availability, directly from Vlotho (North Rhine-Westphalia) or from the manufacturer in Barcelona to Germany, Austria, and Switzerland.
All standard models from the OX-SB 9 to the OX-SB 1350 have a DNV-GL type approval.
Each component is equipped with a nameplate for quick and easy identification. The load capacities for different lengths are detailed in the user manual.
Why modular construction can speed up your project:
Expert tip:
Modular spreader beams are the ideal choice, especially if you work at changing locations or need to lift loads with varying lifting points. They minimize downtime and reduce the operating costs of your fleet.

Modular spreader beam vs. fixed load beam: Flexibility beats rigidity
In modern lifting technology, the question often arises: Should one invest in a custom-made, fixed lifting beam or in a modular system? While fixed beams are justified for repetitive standard lifting operations, the modular spreader beam offers decisive strategic advantages in terms of cost-effectiveness and range of applications.
The most important advantages at a glance:
| Feature | Modular spreader beam | Fixed lifing beam |
|---|---|---|
| Adaptability | Span and capacity are highly adaptable through various models and individual components as a modular building block principle. | Fixed dimensions are often only applicable to specific load widths. |
| Logistics and warehousing | Space-saving transport and simplified storage in individual parts. | Often requires costly special transport for large spans, a lot of storage space is needed, and handling is difficult. |
| Investment protection | “Growing” system: individual struts and supplementary components can be replaced or purchased as needed. | If the load values differ, a complete new purchase is often necessary. |
| Own weight | Optimized power-to-performance ratio through pure compressive stress. | In some cases it can be more massive and heavier, as it is designed to withstand bending stress. |
All standard models of modular spreader beams from OX-SB 9 to OX-SB 1350 have DNV type approval.
The spreader beams have a lower dead weight compared to rigid, solid load beams, which has a positive effect on the overall weight of the slings. This weight reduction allows the crane, for example, to have a smaller lifting capacity. In addition, transport is easier to manage. Ultimately, costs can be saved in this way.
Thanks to the modular construction system, the spreader beams from OX & RUD Lifting Solutions are not only easier to transport but also easier to store. The easy handling enables the spreader to be set up and dismantled quickly on site.
The individual struts in different lengths enable the spreader beam to be flexibly adapted to the respective requirements of the lifting process. Various combinations of the individual components give you a lot of flexibility in terms of span, load capacity and anchor points. With a small investment in suitable corner pieces, you can also use the existing components to create a spreader frame with four attachment points and a low overall height. So you can easily respond to short-term inquiries from your customers!
The spreader beams can be combined with each other so that you get additional attachment points for your load. In the 1-over-2 configuration, another spreader beam is hooked under a modular spreader beam at the respective end unit, so that there are four anchor points. This principle can be taken even further, giving you more lifting points. You can find a graphic showing the various configuration options under the corresponding menu item.
The Spanish manufacturer OX & RUD Lifting Solutions offers a wide range of spreader beams and has many components in stock so that short-term deliveries can also be made. Of course, the subject of prior sale is always reserved.
Due to the modular principle, the individual components are much smaller in size than a complete spreader beam. This means that the spreaders can be delivered easily, which reduces transport costs. Special transport is not required here.
The components of the modular spreader beams are closed on the sides. This prevents the entry of moisture and the associated corrosion. These spreader beams are therefore ideal for shipping, the offshore sector and the oil and gas sector.
The modular spreader beams from OX Worldwide can be used in different configuration options:

Due to the flexible customization options, you can use the modular spreader beams from OX & RUD Lifting Solutions for a wide variety of loads, such as lifting containers, boats or silos.

The modular spreader beams can be used as a cascade, hanging one above the others, to reach four or more anchor points. Depending on the arrangement of the spreaders, these lifting points can be on a line or in the respective corners.
For even more flexibility, the modular spreader beams can be expanded since 2022 with a telescopic strut, which can be adjusted in length without losing its load-bearing capacity.
Structural steel and high-elastic-strength steel are used to manufacture the spreader beams. These are optionally delivered with a 3.1. material certificate.

Additional options:
The company OX & RUD Lifting Solutions is ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 3834-2 certified. The following guidelines are used for the design and manufacturing:
The standard versions of the modular spreader beams have DNV-GL type approval. This includes:
The sling angle influences the required sling length and the load capacity of the modular spreader beam. In general, it should be noted that the angle of the upper sling ropes must never be greater than 45°. For information, the manufacturer has created the following graphics:
Stop angle of 20°

B = X x 1,46
C = X x 1,37
Stop angle of 30°

B = X = 30°
C = X x 0,87
Stop angle of 45°

B = X x 0,71
C = X x 0,50

To easily determine which modular spreader beams are suitable, simply refer to the table for load capacity and span. Finding the right spreader beam model for a standard lifting operation is therefore very easy: first select the required load capacity and then the necessary span, and you will immediately receive the variant that best suits your current project.
Please ensure you adhere to the capacity limits. If the weight to be transported is close to a limit, it is recommended to select the higher category and therefore the more stable model. Exceeding the rated load capacity compromises workplace safety.
We are also happy to advise you on more complex lifting processes. These could include, for example:
By clicking on the tables you can see exactly for each model type how the load-bearing capacity of the modular spreader beams changes due to the sling angle and span.
Do you need to lift a very long, but not very heavy load? – The cone adapters for modular spreader beams from OX & RUD Lifting Solutions are the solution here.
The conical adapters are placed between the end piece and the outer strut. This makes it possible to combine the struts of a larger assembly with end pieces of a smaller assembly (using the correspondingly smaller drop pieces and shackles). The struts themselves therefore have a higher load-bearing capacity than the end pieces used. With these “essentially oversized struts,” the length required for this assembly is achieved, which would not have been possible with the smaller end pieces and drop pieces.
This allows the user to use the existing spreader beam with a larger span without having to enlarge the entire truss model with regard to the end pieces, drop lugs and shackles.
This saves enormous costs and weight. With the matching lighter lifting equipment, handling becomes easier and faster.

The advantages of using cone adapters are briefly summarized:
By using the cone adapters, not only smaller and lighter end units can be used. As a result, the other components are also reduced, such as drop links, shackles and slings.
The use of smaller and lighter components and slings ultimately means cost savings for you.
The cone adapters, like the spreader beams from OX & RUD Lifting Solutions, are manufactured using structural steel and high-yield steel. These are optionally delivered with a 3.1 material certificate.
Finish:
The maximum possible length depends on the model type of struts. However, the maximum load capacity depends on the properties of the end units. For example, when using cone adapters of type 110/50, the nominal load capacity table for the modular spreader beam looks as follows:

These adapters are available in addition to the following spreader beam models from OX & RUD Lifting Solutions.
